This was probably a manual for a class taught by Hovey. After completing an apprenticeship and studying watch manufacture in various contries during his military service had concluded his study with some time in Switzerland. His teaching career was brief, probably no more than from 1992-1998 for the American Watchmakers Institute. His manuals are uncommon in the trade and are not available from the American Watchmakers Clockmakers Institute.
