The product of a San Francisco childhood and an education at the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Magnin assumed pulpits in Stockton and in Los Angeles at Temple B'nai B'rith before assuming the primary taks of his life, the pulpit at Temple Wilshire Boulevard. He was a central figure in Jewish Los Angeles for over forty years.
