Harold Paris. Works on Paper: A Series, "The 26 Days of John Little."

San Francisco: Stephen Wirtz Gallery, 1978. Softbound. Oblong octavo, glossy paper covers, plastic spiral spine, 31 pp., color illustrations. Very Good. Item #32903

The title work originated as a lithograph in March 1977, dedicated in memory of Harold's brother-in-law, John Little (1950-1977). Numerous proof trials were made which became the nucleus for the "series" and with each "day" the original imagery underwent a complete metamorphosis. The format which began as a field of grey, developed with the addition of collage elements. Reaching through the many layers with cuts, slashes and tears, the cellophane and paper tapes were transformed in calligraphic strokes and gestures.
