All volumes translated from the Yiddish by Bernard Martin. The publication of this set of books was problematic and there were changes in publishers and slight changes in the stock used for the covers, dust jackey and paper, but overall the work matches at least because of uniform typography and size. The Information on the individual volumes is as follows, "Vol. I Part One: The Arabic-Spanish Period." Cleveland, Press of Case Western Reserve University, 1972. "Volume II. Part Two: French and German Jewry in the Early Middle Ages. Part Three: The Jewish Community of Medieval Italy." Cleveland, Press of Case Western Reserve University, 1972. Vol. III "Part Four: The Struggle of Mysticism and Tradition Against Philosophical Rationalism." Cleveland, The Press of Case Western University Press, 1973. Vol. IV. "Part Five: Italian Jewry in the Renaissance Era." Cincinnati, Hebrew Union College Press, 1974. Vol. V. "Part Six: The Jewish Center of Culture in the Ottoman Empire." Cincinnati, HUC Press, 1974. Vol. VI. "Part Seven: The German-Polish Cultural Center." Cincinnati, HUC Press, 1975. Vol. VII. "Part Eight: Old Yiddish Literature from its Origins to the Haskalah Period." Cincinnati, HUC Press, 1975. Vol. VIII. "Part Nine: The Berlin Haskalah." Cincinnati, HUC Press, 1976. Vol IX. "Part Ten: Hasidism and Enlightenment (1780-1820)." Cincinnati, HUC Press, 1976. Vol. X. "Part Eleven: The Science of Judaism and Galician Haskalah." Cincinnati, HUC Press, 1977. Vol. XI. Part Twelve: The Haskalah Movement in Russia." Cincinnati, HUC Press, 1978. Vol. XII "Part Thirteen: Haskalah at Its Zenith." Cincinnati, HUC Press, 1978. Zinberg was arrested by Stalin's NKVD in 1937 and Part Thirteen was published posthumously. He surely would have continued on to the modern era if he had had the opportunity.
